Shakespeare professor. Tired.
Jim Henson studios would be wise to lean into this idea and do a full series of Muppet cinema/theater adaptations, all with McCorkindale's art as Criterion Collection-style DVD covers. I'd lead with King Lear (biased b/c it's the commission he did for me) or 12 Angry Muppets (a personal favorite).

This was probably my first ever comic, period. A comic store opened in our tiny town when I was about 10 years old. Pulled this issue from the bargain bin based solely on the cover being cool and the price being right.

I'm a bit late to the game on this one, but I am enjoying the hell out of Birthright by @joshuawilliamson.bsky.social and Andrei Bressan. I picked up a TPB at Ollie's Discount Warehouse a couple weeks back, and got sucked right in. I'm four volumes in now, and it just keeps getting better.

Newest acquisition arrived yesterday! Couldn’t pass it up at the price it sold for, plus, this is the first piece I picked up that includes Niels the bouncing cat!

Dramatic reenactment of your camera resolution in the first 10 minutes or so, haha:

Happy day of birth! The first issue to come to mind was this one. I wasn't really into the X-Men at the time (a little bit of New Mutants only). I picked this up for some reason, and couldn't put it down. Colossus was relentless and there was a sense of danger through the whole issue. Loved it.

13: This last page is a special one for me. It was a "grail" page. It's the page where Speedball's father (a virulently anti-super hero DA) discovers that his son is himself a super hero. Bear in mind, this comic came out in 1992.
April 2, 2025 at 6:02 AM
12: The last two pages are both from issue 27, the Infinity War tie-in issue. This one was an eBay pick up from a LONG time back. Tiny detail--if you look closely at the family behind Speedball, you'll notice a certain Springfieldian resemblance...
April 2, 2025 at 5:57 AM
11: The other three pages are all from @darickr.bsky.social's run on the book, including this one from issue 28. Silhouette is one of my favorite characters, so this page was a must-get when I had the opportunity.
April 2, 2025 at 5:54 AM
10: My last 4 are pages from V1 of the New Warriors. First up is this page by Mark Bagley from NW #7. Not only does it have the entire team, but I love it because issue 7 was my "jump on" issue. I loved seeing how Bagley wrote little notes in the margins to collab with @fabiannicieza.bsky.social

9: This Nova/Namorita sketch by Darick is the only commission/sketch piece that I got in the secondary market. I picked it up on eBay MANY years ago. I love it, but I now avoid buying stuff like this on the secondary market because I've learned how lousy it is when people upsell an artist's work.

8: This Speedball sketch by @darickr.bsky.social is the first piece of art I ever owned. I got it when I was 13 years old at the Philly Comic Con, after (I'm sure) annoying the heck out of the artist with my New Warriors ramblings. He only charged $10 for something that became a prized possession.

7: In a similar vein, @rpace.bsky.social offered commissions in exchange for donations to local food banks. I got these amazing drawings of Speedball and Silhouette as part of that project. I had so much fun watching him post the most riduculously wide array of characters during that project.

6: The next smaller piece is this Night Thrasher drawing by @adamgorham.bsky.social. Back in 2020, the artist wanted to raise money for businesses owned or connected to BIPOC, and offered small commissions in exchange for a donation receipt. Great art and amazing cause to boot.

5: Most of my collection is wholly comic oriented, and entirely composed of pieces connected to my favorite comic as a kid, The New Warriors. I'll start with the smaller pieces, including this fun card by Fred Hembeck. He sells these on eBay, and they always remind me of those Bullpen Bits strips.

4: I'll keep it going with comic/academic crossovers with this piece by @jkwoodward.bsky.social. I'm still amazed that such an amazing artist was willing to create the logo for our digital humanities project (an online archive of actors' letters). He added some artistic class to our nerdy endeavor.

3: This next piece sort of threads the needle between my interest in Shakespeare and comics. When I finished my PhD, my one celebratory splurge was to get this commission from the amazing @brucemccorkindale.bsky.social. It lives in my office, and students always react to it with glee.

2: This is another costume design in my collection, also by Patrick Clark. I got to see this amazing production of Love's Labour's Lost live (and @stratfest.bsky.social recorded it, so you can see it too). Holofernes is the schoolmaster in this play, and I was absolutely ecstatic when I got this.
April 2, 2025 at 5:23 AM
1: This piece was created by Patrick Clark, who sadly passed in 2023. I didn't get to see this production of Taming of the Shrew, but I loved that it featured one of the characters who pretends to be a school master (some of my academic work focuses on schoolmasters).

I saw this great convo the other day, and it gave me an idea. In the interests of pushing back on the constant negativity, let's share our art collections, describe what we like and why we like it, and throw some love towards the artists who created the pieces that we love. #ArtCollectionApril

@xmencomicssteve.bsky.social and @comicfoil.bsky.social, do you mind if I use this screenshot from your conversation as the starting post for something?

I honestly don't think I've seen this before. A job posting (at Binghamton U) that openly states that they have an internal candidate.
