TIME PASSES DIFFERENTLY HERE Red lights replace sun’s rays, Hesitant whispers cascade Into a crescendo of sound. Laughter rings out, A plea for silence And for sleep replies. Slowly, quiet descends, The group drifting off. In the blink of an eye The lights simulate dawn. Reveille is at five, today, The recruits stumbling, The RDC’s shouting. Another day Identical to the last, A continuous blur. Red lights replace sun’s rays Once more. Another night, a wink of Sleep. The lights simulate dawn. We feel insignificant, caught in chess Like an expendable pawn They only need the first 38 To graduate.

#TBT to this poem I wrote a decade ago.
Titled: The Storm Inside. Darkness falls And here I lay. Another battle Fought today. My mind the field. I refuse to yield to my own darkest memories, the most vicious of enemies. Back still straight, My will unbroken. The proof of my strength, Carried close as a token. These moments I'm free, Held close to me. The simplest trigger And I stifle a shiver. And so I choose To stay awake. I will not lose, My mind's at stake.
