But one of the *underlying* issues remains "why the SHIT do we accept a society wherein A TINY HANDFUL of people can hold so much power and influence over the rest of us, even down to our environment and privacy and decision-making capacities"??? It's grotesque. And ofc the answer remains: money.)

(TBH, I also think it's unavoidable to have a reallyyy seriously discussion about the role in capitalism in everything going on with tech bros--and tech. Because, yes, there is this increasingly visible overlap between 'tech dude with large amounts of power' and 'tech dude with foul social beliefs'.

Because, yes, there is this increasingly visible overlap between 'tech dude with large amounts of power' and 'tech dude with foul social beliefs'.
We know the endgame is power and control by the few. We know the ideal environment for that is one of fear, othering, misinformation/education, etc; whatever corners the public into being too confused/afraid/stressed/preoccupied etc to be able to push back (or to even know they need to push back).

It's already so painfully clearly *right there* in their actions (and statements), y'know? They're not being subtle :/
Plus, we've seen these kind of moments history. (Often, although certainly not always, the same points in history that have inspired those same fictional dystopias as well.)

(Obviously the method in amongst the madness is you gotta stick to your own ethics in amongst all that. But I do see a trend in many younger people at trying so, so desperately hard not to offend the kind of folks prone to attacking just for the hell of it. And that makes me very sad.)

I do attempt to avoid putting my foot in it through sheer “I did not think this through”-ness these days (which makes me sadly less chatty, bc less impulsive nonsense from me). But I also know there are always going to be folks who could & would tear my interests and takes to shreds if they wanted.

Majjskdkd I mean as a shortie I was like ??? at your choice lol but in no way actually offended. (As someone who has horrifying anxiety and a constant horror of upsetting people… my mb hypocritical advice is that attempting to avoid offence online is a fraught and miserable existence 😔)

Especially when also compared to a system that encourages skipping anything hard to understand and hope things just make sense later (clearly not ideal for an adult reader attempting to dig into new and complex ideas!).
