sorry i just like thinking abt vanity as a symptom of a societal environment over a character flaw. like, how can you not end up being vain when you are pressured to be flawless and perfect when you fundamentally dont fit whatever that entails

but that doesnt change that throughout his life no one has ever complimented him for reasons that arent effortless. like, he doesnt have pretty eyes, or flawless skin, or nice hair. in fact the times he did stop caring is when others found him the most off-putting, which is great for self-confidence

hes gotten over feeling the need to hide his eye, mostly bc it made it harder to see. and ive talked before about how he tends to avoid wearing things that show his shoulders or back bc he doesnt like how "messy" it looks
