Pierogi Nazi. Glonzo did nothing wrong. Not really Giancarlo Esposito.
There is like 10 different red flags here but "Michael Tracey, credible journalist" was a chuckle.

Why? Because the media sanitized it for consumption and buried the quotes 10 paragraphs down inside a bland context.

This cracks me up. So the Fascist Grand Council fires Mussolini and he goes to the office the next day like George Costanza

That's a pretty cool twist of fate! Just since we are talking about it, West Point in its early years was run by the Corps of Engineers.

Biden lost the most important election of my lifetime to support a person who wouldn't have pissed on him if his head was on fire.

Re: Blackhawk Down - it's a good movie. Love the late Rachid Taha's music in it. I also read The Zanzibar Chest where Reuters war reporter writes about his time in Somalia when it all went down plus Rwanda. Would recommend if you like that type of memoir.

Individual incentives can encourage radicalization. This description from Robert Paxton in The Anatomy of Fascism nails the dynamics of Trump's cabinets.

Mussolini's political career started in the early 1900s. I'll date his political career back to 1903. Meaning probably 35 years to achieve dictatorial authority

Vaclav Havel has never felt as relevant in the west as he does now. Glad to see someone making the connection.

This is standard operating procedure. When Trump ranted that about Haitians having "bad genes" their headline was "Donald Trump invoked his long-held fascination with genes and genetics.”

They rewrote it slightly after intense criticism, but in general they are happy to repeat his vile claims.

Footnote 72 points out that Maurras was a monarchist.

Anyway the "it feels true and that's what matters" reminded me of JD Vance admitting he was fabricating stories about immigrants. And he thought it was a good thing he was doing it.

Found this little snippet about nationalist Charles Maurras. He got conned by a counterfeit during the Dreyfus affair and rather than admit his error decided it was good the evidence was fake.

Not sure if he was a fascist but this sort of thinking seems to be everywhere now.
