i know I’d be a lot happier if I could run a 4.6 40

No leg drive, no arch, and a close grip. The people’s champion.

Especially if your wrists both you - assuming you have sufficient shoulder mobility. Btn jerks are fun and can be loaded pretty heavy

You could also have a set target at some weight and once you hit 5 sets at a give height or speed add weight the following week.

If you can’t clean I think having both the jumps and the pulls would be a good idea just to make sure everything covered. Maybe some btn jerks would be interesting?

I would imagine you could do both. Both offer ways to progress your pulls since obviously the qualities you’re training are different than hypertrophy or maximal strength. You could add weight until the bar slows down or until you don’t get a certain height (belly button or draw a line on your shirt

Also, why not just power clean? Even if you’re not interest in competing. The whole being more than the sum of its parts and whatnot.

I went through a prolonged snatch grip highpull phase. I usually went until I noticed significant slowdown or a drop in bar height. Usually a snatch pull into consecutive highs while trying to do the high pulls as reactively as possible. Could try one day of high pulls and one of trap bar jumps.

He also made his older books available for free, as well as all of his programs. The SBS bundle is fantastic

They train like Bulgarians in the 80s

If my school gym stopped spending money on eleiko open trap bars and got a belt squat I’d have equine thighs

That and recommending the old chad Wesley smith videos about squatting, benching, etc

This is why I find training for strongman so fun. There’s not much I can do that is unproductive. Beyond that I’ve found it’s a good response to people who ask for advice in the gym. That way they don’t get wrapped up in whether this or that is wrong when all they need to do is show up and try.

This is the best way to periodize. Fun-Periodization. Do something until it’s not fun (usually when someThing hurts). Do something else until it hurts to get out of a chair. Rinse repeat.

Some freak thrower did 200kg for 3 or 4. Probably not even half a dozen oly lifters who could do that rn

I’ve gone up to high 5’s but it absolutely crushes you for a few days. Something about having that much weight on your back is killer. Probably why cal likes them so much you have to do everything you can to move the weight in a way no other lift can replicate. The long eccentrics don’t help either
January 21, 2025 at 12:30 AM
Nice. I know Cal Dietz (university of Minnesota strength coach) really likes something similar and had throwers going 800+. Much more interesting than the reincarnation of a more annoying Henry Ford.

It seems like a lot of strength content doesn’t operate towards the end of empowering lifters which is why Mike T’s stuff seems so useful. It helps cut out a lot of the noise so that coaches or lifters can figure out what works for a particular individual through encouraging rigorous exploration.
