I'm up to God Loves, Man Kills in my Claremont Era read.

It's somehow incredibly prescient (A hate rally in MSG) & ideologically funded hate sqauds doing lynchings (Purifiers).

It's also unfortunately horribly dated (Kitty dropping a full chested N word) & an immediately rapey gang latinos.

An actual image of Gunn writing at lightspeed to try and outpace our society's and Warner Bros' structural implosion.

I haven't posted on Instagram since May. The last time I used Twitter the blue octogenarian was still Prez, and I managed to quit YouTube for an entire week now.

Guys...

Batman Returns is still...uhhh...whips.

Board-certified psychosexual cinema...FOR KIDS!

Seriously, this movie is just a freakoff between three abandoned and mistreated miscreants.

It also looks stunning in 4K.

The best thing about Jamss Gunn is that if he wrote a flash movie, you can bet your bottom dollar Grodd would be the villain. Instead of, ohh i dunno, fucking General Zod.

So, he proves without a shadow of a doubt that Chuck’s disability is mental, not physical, as Chuck has always staunchly maintained. He tears down Chuck’s reputation via an excruciating public humiliation in front of Chuck’s ex-wife, no less.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Jimmy knows he doesn’t have to prove his innocence, just his brother’s infirmity and invalidity, which he has so painstakingly massaged publicly, ironically with Jimmy’s help. But to do this he has to make his beloved brother whom he has idolized for so long, a sucker. He must ruin him.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Two and a half seasons of deeply layered, fraught fraternal fractures finally shatter when Jimmy cross-examines Chuck at his Bar Hearing. The most tragic irony of this 5-minute exchange is that it’s probably the most honest the brothers have maybe ever been about the nature of their relationship.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Chuck can’t see how he is an enormous contributor to his brother’s disposition; he simply feels guilt for enabling Jimmy to achieve any kind of standing that allows him to utilize his natural-born talents. A real chicken or the egg type of ethical conundrum.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Jimmy has always been a people pleaser, but he also resents how susceptible people are to his own keen powers of persuasion. An ingrained sense of self-loathing lodged deep down in his psyche. Chuck’s mental deterioration is explicitly linked to Jimmy’s scheming ways.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
The thing is, Chuck is a major hypocrite since he abides by Jimmy’s antics when it suits his needs. Jimmy deceives Chuck’s ex-wife, Rebbeca, with an elaborate charade to keep up appearances when she comes for a visit. Plying her with charm & lawyer jokes. Much to Chuck’s annoyance.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Jimmy learned how to see the wants in people & how to use that to get ahead. He’s able to prey upon the weaknesses of others. He can smell blood in the water like a shark. This is what Chuck sees: a predatory nature inside his little brother & little brother shark wants to swim with the fishes.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Jimmy, however, was very aware from a young age of their father’s pliable, bleeding heart & his propensity to give away the family earnings to any sob story that walked in the door. This was likely the germination of his slipping ways. An “eat or get eaten” type of attitude.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Their father died when they were young; it’s clear Chuck assumed some of that fatherliness, intentionally or not. Chuck blames Jimmy for ruining the family Convenience Store by skimming money from the till, not realizing his father’s own naivety & gullible heart likely contributed to this tenfold.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
People have argued Chuck never loved Jimmy and only resented him, but I’d argue that their messy, complicated relationship is very much a two-way street. An ouroboros of minor slights & resentments tracing back farther than either of them could probably still recall.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Chuck wanted to be loved unconditionally, divorced from his accomplishments, yet only found validation in them.
Jimmy wanted to be respected by an establishment (mainly Chuck) that was never going to accept him for who he was, no matter how much he tailored his persona to please them.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
They say, “familiarity breeds contempt,” and the real tragedy of Jimmy and Chuck is that no one knows the other better than they do. But the Brothers McGill have always wanted what the other had and yet were never able to give that to each other. Mutually assured dissatisfaction.
June 30, 2025 at 2:26 AM
However, we’re discovering the limits of Jimmy’s fidelity to his idolisation of his brother, whom he’s always held in such high esteem. The scales have fallen from his eyes; there was never going to be any kind of peaceful co-existence between them where both got what they wanted from one another.
