I believe the result of the second of the init calculations would not be used anywhere, but if the init is not pure, it would be a nightmare to debug.

init would run twice in a StrictMode with useState. So ref may be at least a performance optimisation for development.

Probably can also lead to weird bugs and inconsistency between development and production, because of double initialisation?

Thanks for removing callbacks though. Saved countless hours of reading through effects spaghetti created by people treating the library like a fetch() wrapper
