If this excites you, you can back Cultivaria on Kickstarter now. When you pledge on Kickstarter you don't pay upfront- the money only comes out if we reach our funding goal. Likewise, the game will only be printed and distributed if that goal is met.

Ceremony: A complex ritual and cultural system is key to the lives of many past communities. In Cultivaria you can perform ceremonies to gain you extra points.

Climate: The earth's global climate has shifted many times, and in doing so affected how people managed resources and fed their community. Throughout a game of Cultivaria, the climate changes many times and affects players in this same way.

Events: Whether it's vermin or a productive season- events can have a positive or negative affect on your game, but either way they require your community to adapt.

Innovations: Throughout the game your community can develop innovations to help you thrive in different ways- these include 'food storage', 'complex rituals' and 'intermarriage'.

Resources: Cultivaria includes 74 plants and animals known through the archaeological record to have been eaten by people in the deep past. Each of these resources includes a hand-drawn illustration and an archaeology fact.

As in real life, it takes 2 people allocated to the 'grow' action to produce a new member for your community ☺️ As in real life, if you don't feed your people they will 'disappear' 😔

During the game you can feed your people either by harvesting wild resources, or cultivating a resource to make it long-term accessible to your community.

What success in Cultivaria looks like depends on many things, including the landscape your community lives in and the cultural tradition they start with.

A huge goal of Cultivaria is to challenge the concept that agriculture is the ideal way for a society to function. In the game, we use the term 'cultivation' to mean a wide variety of land management techniques that make resources more abundant and easily accessible.
