Hardshell tacos are hotdogs, softshell tacos are sandwiches.

Ultimately, the novel can be read through the lens of disability about a family neglecting their own son and brother once he grew useless, but I think the narrative is just as effective if Gregor was an idea just as much as he is a person.

He is represented as a roach due to their hatred, anger, and heartbreak of him leaving them (becoming inhuman), and killed by an apple to represent his sin. Ultimately, I believe that from this perspective, The Metamorphosis is a narrative about letting go and growing.

I believe that his family was holding onto the memory of him, but having died in such a terrible way (suicide) they come to hate and resent his memory.

There are other things, too, that I think points to Gregor not being alive — the food going in and out of his room uneaten, his things being removed from his room, and his room being used for storage.

I don’t think it’s necessarily revolutionary, but the story begins with Gregor unable to move, and eventually, unable to eat. He is described as having been an upstanding employee, but one day he’s just sick, and never goes out again. He isolates himself, and never goes out again.
