As a designer, I've fallen into the trap of "I have all the information, and therefore so will my players" many times, and so KTANE was a humbling experience.

It's a prime example of asymmetrical gameplay, puzzle-solving and collaborative communication, sure.

But there's that deeper layer, too.

I think KTANE can serve an important job beyond mechanics or genre - it's a prime example of the curse of knowledge.

Sure, if you had both parts of the puzzle (the game screen and the manual), it'd be so much easier.

But you don't. And you're relying on someone else who also doesn't.

When the series originally came out, I was hoping that some of these would have been included - I'm still hoping that (at least) one gets used in S3!
