I should just add, for the record: Reiner was worth 1000 Kirks. He was a creative dynamo, a deeply decent human being, a force for philanthropy & pro-social values. Kirk was a small-minded, resentful, thumb-faced grifter who made the world worse by spreading his resentments.

All right, I read both parts of the Vanity Fair interview & my assessment is: meh. There's no secret depth here, no story behind the story. These are simply ugly, dull-minded people. Apparatchiks. The thing about the banality of evil is that it's really ... banal.
