It's super fun and there are a bunch of ways to build it. It's currently my favorite deck. #wotcstaff

I hear you, and keeping and/or restoring trust is a big thing I'm focused on. That said, there's a difference between "here's how things are for the foreseeable future" and "here's how things are forever." We shouldn't ever say the second one. We say the first one all the time.

Without specifics, I couldn't speak to it specifically. But I can say that as long as I've been here we've not stopped working with someone just because they said something negative. We've stopped for other reasons, but we don't make them public because we're not out to badmouth people.

I get that frustration. It sounds like it's still for you, but I hear you. Part of the reason we expanded to 3 year Standard was to let people play their decks. Are you regularly RCQing? FNM? What's your Standard play experience of choice?

If you already don't trust me, how can I answer that question? Or any question? I'd love to engage and discuss, but I feel at a disadvantage when the lead in is that you don't trust what I say.

I read that differently, but I also know Mark personally, so that certainly colors my read.

Totally! My MTG motto is much the same--we all start from a place about being passionate about Magic. That's an awesome place to start from. We should be so lucky to have that in common. #wotcstaff

I'll respond! I get that coming away with that ick, but that's just not how our processes work here. Fishing for a predetermined answer doesn't help us at all and isn't how we discuss or review data internally. You ever discuss data with a room of Magic players? It's that.

I very much don't think anyone said they were whining by anyone working for WotC. If anyone did say that, I'd like to know, because that's not cool (or accurate).

No...I'm saying we are looking at the full ecosystem and players see their slice. They're different views. Both can be true that a local scene is suffering but the full ecosystem is not. No one here is lying. It's not one or the other.
October 16, 2025 at 5:29 PM
And we've heard that. But we also know exactly how many Standard events are run with how many players play across the full ecosystem. And it's up. Squaring that feedback and that data is something we spend a lot of time on.
October 16, 2025 at 5:27 PM
If we're coming off as dismissive, that sucks and we should do better. That said, two things can be true--many players may not like a thing, AND they may be in the minority to a point we continue down a path they don't like. That doesn't feel good for anyone.
October 16, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Ok, but when we say things like that, we're talking about the full ecosystem. When you see what you see, you're looking at a slice. Can't it both be true that in your area it's worse, but in total it's up?

A game built on evolution and how we interact with business partners are very much not the same thing. We'll just have to disagree on that.
October 16, 2025 at 5:14 PM
Look, I get feeling that way. I do. I've heard this sentiment over and over. We're missing the mark in our comms. That said, MaRo is as honest as they come and incredibly empathetic. And long-term health is massively important to us, but I know you all don't get to hear our internal discussions.
