Alexander Fax Booksellers is unfortunately shutting their physical shop at Mawson on 1st November & they are having a 50% off sale. I will miss roaming the aisles and chatting with David, but they will retain their online store and catalogues. I managed to pick up a few gems on Saturday. 1/2

An interesting recent find, which I initially thought was a different edition of E.G. Keogh’s “Shenandoah 1861-1862”, one of a series of history books that he wrote for the Australian Army (including for Staff College exams).

Two photos of me leaning against Centurion tanks - one at Puckapunyal, VIC in 1989 and one at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec in 2025. Quite a bit has happened in the years between them!

Most people know I love a good library, and the one at the Royal Military College Saint-Jean has a great view over the river!

This is Merlot, the resident cat here at Fort Saint Jean. He likes to drop by the barracks and would really like an ear scratch if you have the time.

Dropped by the Chambly Canal National Historic Site today & I was lucky enough to see the locks and moving bridge in action!!

Quick trip to visit Fort Chambly today, originally built as a wooden fort by the French in 1665, the stone fort was constructed in 1709 and later restored by Parks Canada. The fort occupies a strategic position in the rapids of the Richelieu River, a traditional invasion route into Canada.

Flags are at half mast across Canada to mark the passing of Marc Garneau, the first Canadian astronaut to fly into space. He graduated from the Royal Military College Saint Jean in 1970, where some of his mission patches are on display in the Fort Saint Jean Museum.
