Sociotechnologist, activist. First employee @ Twitter, built that and pioneered social decentralization, created OAuth. Shy cloud-observer, mostly. Building for Local at @wearenewpublic.
We also don't have any CBC correspondents, and a recent "rural outreach" program to put reporters in small communities completely omitted Nelson, Trail & Castlegar. So as a resident of the West Kootenay I beg to differ with your beg to differ. 😉❤️

My property burned last year along many neighbours and there's been literally not one cent of government support and not one article or story or anything about the fallout for those of us that were affected. 🤷

I was thinking ideologically, like vegetarian. "I only consume content produced by human cognition."

I just had the pleasure of helping demo the thing I've been working on to a group of amazing folks who are going to try to re-focus their communities.

I have real hope around this, vs our current state of always/only watching depressing global news that we have no agency over.

This was the easiest job in the world to manage, and they (the CFIA) let it spiral out of control to become international news.

I trust the science here, but imho the government comms incompetence should be the story, so that we don't end up with more idiotic outcomes like this one.

The lesson is that the CFIA learned absolutely nothing about the need for public communications from COVID.

I live 30 miles as the crow flies from the ex-ostriches, and ... there's nothing out here. No-one cares about what happens out here.

Also, it's burger month in town and I'm disappointed that none of the local restaurants has entered an Ostrich Burger into the competition. 🦆

I live 30 miles as the crow flies from the fucking ex-ostriches. The real story, imho, is how the CFIA / government managed to let this get away from them.

It's as if they learned *nothing* about the need for communications from COVID.

... and then Jeff Bezos told the villagers that he alone would eat all the stone soup, and that they needed to make him another million cauldrons of soup for his own satiety. If they did that, he might deign to give them a bowlful.

Surely not!

Tyler (& Bill & Jan) could use some help out this way, though. ❤️

If any of them want to come out to the Kootenays to report on stuff, that would be great! They wouldn't be lying when they said no-one reported on any of it (apologies to the two reporters in Nelson, who are just trying to do their best).
November 9, 2025 at 2:20 AM
De nada! It's really exciting, important, and hard-to-do-right work! Kudos! ❤️

Slightly more because conservatively, you'd make about $4m/day, at least when starting out.

Spending it without ending up with assets... sigh, I just despair at our world sometimes.

I would 100% sit in a box at standards meetings and heckle with you.

If they wanted to to be eh tee proto it would have been spelled 80proto, right? Sadly, Millennial Falcons no longer rule the internet waves, so that future isn't for us.

Do pre-existing elders get "Bluesky Ancient" status? 🗿

Soon!

It is true that people started trying to play with the medium as an API surface right away – one person made a thing that would tweet every Google search before we had an official API. 😂
October 31, 2025 at 6:41 PM
In terms of timing, it's a good story that the first _sketch_ of twitter took a day, but it took months to ship an early beta, and getting both the product and the API to a point where people started to use it took months more.

I haven't listened to the podcast, but that's not how I remember it. 😅

@rabble.nz was an outside observer at that point, but there was a lot of intentional work that went into the API (indeed, OAuth was created to support Twitter's API!).
