Recently got a pair of European stag beetles (Lucanus cervus cervus). They are a favourite of mine but holy fuck they lay dormant for so long. I’ll see you next summer buddy
(He is captive bred outside of Europe.)

A dark grey stag beetle with bright red mandibles. The mandibles have a large tooth near the middle and ends with a fork. It has “ear flaps” distinctive of Lucanus. The same insect viewed from another angle. It is on a piece of tissue paper, and the red is more apparent.

My very first picture of a dragonfly, and what a pretty one to immortalize! It’s an immature female, if I’m not mistaken. Mature ones are much redder!

A black and orange jumping spider on a pink rose. The spider is just leaving, heading up and over the top of the rose. The only eyes visible are the two on top of the cephalothorax. Her abdomen is black with an orange band around the sides, and a short orange stripe down the centre. (Or orange with a split black stripe up the centre back.) The rest of the spider is black and hairy.

A small pretty white spider for #Arachtober!

This species of crab spiders is able to change its color, usually to whites or yellows, to hide itself on flowers and catch unsuspecting prey.

Truly an impressive species in terms of batesian mimicry! Its wing patterns imitate the face of an owl to deter predators.
