Great pic. I’m sure I’ve seen, but now can’t find, images of the Interchange Centre building under construction. Was based in those offices, on and off, for nearly 30 years and it’s fascinating to see how that one small area has evolved.

I remember these lights so well and think they were used at least for a few Christmases in the late 80s. But have difficulty remembering Northumberland Street being open to traffic!

When did Northumberland Street start being closed to traffic? I worked and lived in Gateshead from 1987 and was working in College Street by the early 90s. Although online sources say pedestrianisation happened later I struggle to remember any traffic on Northumberland Street while I’ve been around.

Amazing. Glad you weren’t tempted to use the newer Zygons; nothing can beat these old school beauties.

Kids today will never need the skills required to cut out the adverts. Oh, the pride you felt if you managed a seamless transition. Hated it if the adverts were too long - the pause would cancel, the tape would roll back and you’d be recording over the end of part 1 and missing the start of part 2.

That amazing cancelled BAFTA WINNING tv show that they binned. Still shaking my head all these years later.
