I was reading somewhere it all stems from the idiot-savant trope of the Japanese writing, for humor and character development.

Sadly it established itself as an important media tool. Change is slow but inevitable.

Aren't we all? We do live in the digital age after all. But less relying on meta is definitely the first good step foward.

I don't fully agree with Noam Chomski stances. But he does have a good essay "what makes mainstream media, mainstream" in 1997. I feel it influenced some of thinking about the media
