Some guy thought Taiwanese would enjoy eating snail ( they do just not that particular species). He brought them over, circumvented ecology rules and began farming them. Nobody liked them, abandoned the project and walked away. The snails however remained and spread to every wetland and farm

I should have been more specific, that old school style is gone (big typhoon that did Wulai in a few years back) and was replaced with a stable study structure that lacks charm and any sense of adventure (red river valley trail)
