In the late 1980s, Randy Miller served as a liaison between Lesbian & Gay communities and national Democratic presidential campaigns, helping shape early outreach at a critical moment in the National Gay and Lesbian rights movement.

Happy Birthday to Rev. James E. Coates! He was first elected in 1968 as the first elected Ward 8 Representative to the DC School Board! In 1974 he was then elected as Ward 8’s first elected Councilmember where he served on the Council until 1977.

On this day former Councilmember Harold Brazil was born. Brazil served as Councilmember for Ward 6 from 1991-1997 and as an At-Large Councilmember from 1997-2005. During his time in politics Brazil made an unsuccessful bid for Mayor in 1998.
