If your game gives me a home base I can upgrade or talk to npcs to, I love it. Doesn't matter which genre at all: FPS about being cool guys with guns? Gimme a cool safehouse. Evil overlord conquers the world game? Cool, gimme an evil castle. Chill slice of life? Gimme a cool room.
