I can’t imagine it being difficult, if the trump administration to actually try a serious attempt at making denaturalization happen, for them to also frame the immigrants they target as traitors, spies, or otherwise national security risks. We shouldn’t really walk down this path at all.

You insisting it is a slur doesn’t make it one…
February 10, 2026 at 9:21 PM
And acting in extreme bad faith.
February 10, 2026 at 9:21 PM
You’re an idiot ngl
February 10, 2026 at 9:20 PM
Well unfortunately this conversation is not about a slur, it’s about a completely appropriate word to use in the given context.

He didn’t do genocide denial. And it’s definitely not targeted harassment if you come to someone’s post insulting them and they respond to you…
February 10, 2026 at 9:16 PM
What slur?
February 10, 2026 at 9:16 PM
Yes. Being native does not mean they are always right. They did not say “i specifically prefer being called x instead of y” they said “you are racist for ever saying y” and they did so in bad faith, as you are doing now.
February 10, 2026 at 9:07 PM
The people saying “it’s racist” were wrong and were also insulting him. They did not listen and instead weaponized the accusation of racism to get the upper hand in a personal dispute.

If I hear “educate yourself” from one more smug asshole who is literally incorrect, I might lose my mind. So fucking infuriating, I won’t lie. I’m sure they know that too, it’s ragebait that makes them feel self-satisfied, but I wonder if they think any of this actually achieves anything…
February 10, 2026 at 2:28 PM
it is actually nice to hear, thank you!

I used the word native here specifically because the individual I was talking to preferred that, arguing the validity of "indian" in this moment wouldn't be productive to my goal of trying to see if he had a point.
February 9, 2026 at 6:21 PM
oh, you're referring to the use of the word "indian." Let me be clear, I believe both the term "indian" and "native american" are valid and appropriate. I know many indians who actively live on reservations who prefer the terrm "indian."

I am saying that it is an objectively true statement that american founders had interactions with native americans that did not involve killing them or stealing their land. I am not claiming that said genocide or settler-colonialism did not occur. how is this racist?
February 9, 2026 at 6:13 PM
his statement here is LITERALLY true.
February 9, 2026 at 6:09 PM
I'm pretty comfortable with my statements here, but I'm also just curious in hearing the explanations of people that disagree. I think you're clearly using the label of "open racism" as a tool to shut down discussion when you disagree with what's being said. what's wrong with what I said?
February 9, 2026 at 6:07 PM
will did not say that the founding documents had no racism or bigotry, you're missing his point. I do agree that the founding fathers were intensely racist against natives and there is evidence of that in the founding documents, but I think you'll find that will would agree with that too!
February 9, 2026 at 5:56 PM
What will is saying (and what i agree with) is that separate from the realities of life in america when it was founded, the ideals of liberalism existed and were aspirational. those aspirations have been central to all the progress we've seen since then, and are worth holding on to and espousing.
