Tibetan Buddhism, wrathful deities are enlightened beings who take on wrathful forms, a different manifestation of a bodhisattva or other normally peaceful figure. These are the powerful forces within us needed, used--with wisdom and no ego attachment--to deter evil of all kinds. Just like this.
