This was his copy of Theory of Moral Sentiments, 1777, by Adam Smith.

This copy also belonged to war hero Arthur MacArthur and Col. Levi Maish.

Boock of Physicke, 1599 by Gabelkover, is one of the earliest vernacular-language collections of remedies.
For joint pain he suggests using a live frog sewn in cloth to determine corruption of bones. Remedies for pimples take up five pages.

Methodus Fungorum, 1753, is considered the first book entirely dedicated to fungi. This particular copy was owned by the mycologist Nils Fries, great grandson of Elias Fries, father of Swedish mycology. Beautiful vellum, red edges, and engraved plates.

Here's a timely book, "Nazi Germany Means War". The author, Pulitzer Prize winning Leland Stowe, visited Nazi Germany in the early 1930s and was convinced the brutality and militarization that he saw would lead to WWII. He was largely dismissed as an alarmist. Final proof copy

Most people think of Uncle Tom's Cabin as the first American abolitionist novel. Memoirs of Archy Moore predates it by 16 years, 1836. This first edition has the interesting provenance of William H Johnson, an abolitionist and monumental contributor to early Black rights.
