Totally NOT an evil guy of the whole plot.
And I found it hilarious, that in Russian the name of his bird is buffon eagle and buffon is also a liar, two-faced person in a figurative sense.

(actually, yes, he is not evil, and he appears as a secret ally of the adventurers)
