North Carolina based. Orchid, bromeliad, and general plant enthusiast. Here for the bloomscrolling, which is approximately 8% healthier for me than the alternative.
Yes it is! It kind of reminds me of hyacinth but hard to narrow it down. What does it remind you of?

I'm not great with paphs in general. Phrags love me though. This Paph grows indoors under led shop lights. Potted in a rock wool mix, kept consistently moist year round. This is the first successful bloom, as the spikes blasted the last two times. Wish I knew what I did right this time around.

Gonna nerd out here a bit, but this isn't true as stated.

Other orchid species' fruits are edible and at least a couple have been used in similar fashion as vanilla. For example, there is at least one species of Leptotes and one of Selenipedium whose pods are used in a similar fashion.

These flowers are fragrant at night, and smell like butterscotch.

Same here. Hoping for the best, but expecting heavy losses if power is out for days as is being predicted. People and pets come first, though.

Good luck, stay safe!

For those not aware, malipoense routinely takes 6 to 9 months, or more, to go from first sign of a spike until the bud finally, fully opens. And they are notorious for aborting the unopened bud prematurely, sometimes as late in the process as right before the bud cracks open. Cruel, but worth it.

Mangaves (or I guess now these are technically considered agave) are great! Some of them are cold hardy in my zone 8a climate. I started experimenting with them recently and plan to expand my collection in the future. Some also have fragrant flowers.
