Turns out i was wrong in my calorie to joules conversion by i factor of 1000. I googled it and got the number for kcal and not cal. Sloppy reading by me 🫣

How to interpret the vertical axis? It states the cost is (0.7 calories/gram)/kilometer? A 100 kilo human would consume 100*1000*0.7 = 70000 calories for walking 1 kilometer? That is close to 300MJ, or an average power of about 50kW if walking at 6kph. Clearly about 3 orders of magnitude too high...

If the goal is to get it working and not to restore, it could be worth making your own "backend" using technology familiar to you. There are cheap IC's for interfacing resolvers such as ad2s1205. Pulse timing could probably be handled with arduino using interrupts and RF signals using SDR.
