if we want to understand anti-immigration politics and the expansion of the authoritarian state, we should not only look at the radical right (that in many places is not in government), but also keep our eyes on „centre right“ and „centre-left“ parties!

with these policies, the new coalition further attacks racialised minorities, the right to asylum & the EU’s freedom of movement. but with the „security package“ and the introduction of border controls in autumn 2024, the coalition of SPD, greens and FDP already paved the way for these steps …

this includes: controls at national borders & rejections of asylum applications, „deportation offensive", end of voluntary admission programmes, suspension of family reunification, significant increase in the number of safe origin countries, new citizenship law (earliest after 5 instead of 3yrs) …
