Basically the same thing. I don’t see either paying an additional $7 to make a transfer to the LIRR when the 7 express provides the same service for no additional cost and basically the same trip duration. The more options the better, but I wouldn’t personally bother with it.

Me? I’m UES, but I’m not paying $3 to take the 4 from 86th and then paying an additional $7 peak fare CityTicket to switch to the LIRR at Grand Central when I can just transfer to a 7 express that runs every 4 mins at rush hour. I’m definitely not doing that post-game when the 7 runs super express.

I just don’t see the usefulness. The 7 is fast, cheap, runs all the time, and connects well with the of the system. The LIRR is largely useless post game from CitiField, and even going out there I can’t see many people choosing a more expensive option that leaves them a longer walk from the stadium.

The work rules are ridiculous, but the Willets Point LIRR station is on the Port Washington line with no connection to Jamaica and limited usefulness to points east vs the Yankee Stadium station on the much more useful Hudson line and the ability to run Clipper service on Harlem and New Haven lines.
