Trump tariff calculator: A country exports $X to & imports $M from the US. Slap a tariff=(X-M)/2X on it. E.g. Bangladesh’s exports to US $8.4bn & the US bilateral deficit = $6.2bn. (X-M)/2X = 0.369-->tariff 37%. That it makes no macroeconomic sense is part of the Trump tactic!
