The Lepidodendrales are an extinct order of lycophytes that grew upwards of 40 meters tall. Scale trees were so abundant 300 Mya, they may account for 70% of coal in Euramerica.

The life cycle of bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) is dominated by their gametophyte phase. Imagine if we spent most of our lives as giant sperm or egg cells that occasionally sprouted tiny people.

Fungi are more closely related to animals than they are to plants. Golding estimates that plants diverged from animals and fungi a billion years ago, which is 35 Myr before animals and fungi diverged.
