Shark peeps -- is this really a greenland shark? I'm reading that the bottom teeth are more interlocking, and the nose doesn't seem right either. Mislabled? 🧪🦑

Forgot I took this video while waiting for the ambulance 🤣. Feeling fine today, FYI. Time to finish cutting the grass! (Video contains blood but not gore.)

1. I’m okay.
2. I took a hit from a tree limb while cutting the grass.
3. At least I have @restingdinoface.bsky.social’s new book, WHEN THE EARTH WAS GREEN, to listen to!!!
4. Staples are not my favorite thing.

Glorious people of #InverteFest 🧪, lend me your tympanal organs!

I've written a book for NatGeo about North American wildlife. I got to pick 50 critters. An impossible task! But I want you to know...

13 OF MY 50 ARE INVERTEBRATESSSSSS

That's more than 1/4 of the book!!! Want a wee taste? 😍

This chimney swift (I think) tried to land on my son’s back last night. He goes, “Is there a bug on me?” And I’m like, uhhh 😬

Hey friends! What would lay eggs like this near Georgetown, TX? A lizard? Maybe a turtle? 🧪

Today's @science.org newsletter delves into the Rise and Fall of the Giant Sloths, which is fantastic in its own right, but this Avengers-esque sloth graphic puts it over the top!

The more scientists look for "glowing" animals, the more we find. But proving that these purples, pinks, greens, and blues have a purpose -- in most cases, at least -- remains elusive.

I don't know if this jives with the metaphor, but if you're a parent of young mammals and you don't know about these yet, you're welcome.

At the end of the day, it's not that it can never work. Or that trying to make it work is evil or stupid. 🧪

It's that it hasn't worked yet, and saying it has does a disservice to the public, who will only hear about it for 90 seconds on the news or tiktok or ...

We were complete strangers at the time, connected only by a weirdly specific similarity in our human leukocyte antigens. Well, as you can see, it worked! And we've since been able to meet each other and become friends. Here's a photo from our first meeting, back in 2012. 🧪

One of the main characters in this story is Mike Dudley, who along with his wife, Diana, were actually able to come hear the talk. As some of you may remember, Mike & I are blood brothers. In 2008, he received a transplant of my bone marrow in an attempt to survive acute myeloid leukemia. 🧪

Did this actually happen, or did I dream it?

A few weeks ago, @radfordu.bsky.social invited me to give a 🧪 talk, and I used it as an opportunity to tell a story I'd never told before... a story about the cosmos, snow leopards, atoms, and ultimately, about the interconnectedness of all things.

Sad to see Tom Robbins passed. I read most of his work by headlamp in the Cascade Mountains. My wife & I included some of it in our vows.

So, tonight, we eat beets in his honor. IYKYK.

When I talked with @sternarchella.bsky.social, of course we discussed the brilliant @beetlemoses.bsky.social cartoon.

Could a deep sea anglerfish even perceive a world bathed in sunlight? Let alone the lands beyond the surf? Or were its final moments searing white light and sensory overload? 🧪🦑
