Looks like I won't be doing the Chicago Marathon next year.

Not the easiest weather for outdoor running this week.

Not what I was expecting. #Spotify #unwrapped

Feel lucky that flight plans into Chicago weren’t impacted by weather… threaded the gap between yesterday’s snowstorm and tomorrow’s predicted snowfall.

The window for applying to the 2026 Chicago Marathon general lottery closes tomorrow afternoon. I've entered but hold little hope of getting selected; the only way I've been able to do the race over the last five years is fundraising for a charity (American Cancer Society).

Stopped at local Target today, and Target is going HARD on Stranger Things merch. One entire aisle, an endcap, and mid-aisle cart all dedicated to seasons 1-5. Spent some time looking at the Hawkins WSQK radio station vinyl but realized I have most of the 70-80s songs on their original albums.

I went to CostCo this morning to add air to my tires and then decided to go in since they were open. Was refused entry because only “Executive Members” were allowed in store for another 30 mins. I didn’t know this was a thing. Interesting business model that turns away active shoppers at the door.

The snow season has begun in Chicagoland… spider-webby “lake effect” stuff so far.

One of my greatest pleasures in the training offseason is being able to read and explore used bookstores. Visited Milwaukee's Downtown Books store last weekend and picked up some vintage sci-fi to put on the stack.

Swim warmup at 2025 Ironman Wisconsin. I’m 3rd in the group of four, putting on my goggles about to enter the 67 degree water.

Running tomorrow with my local run club, one week after finishing my 1st Ironman, and looking forward to a post-race debrief with a training partner (who also completed her 1st), as well as talk about the race with others. Most are tapering or peaking for their fall marathons. It's nice to be done.

"Hay is in the barn"... I've mostly finished a 30 week triathlon program concluding with an IM race next weekend. I'm now in the 2nd week of a taper, which is always when the little aches/pains and excess energy create some drama before the event. Just got to get myself to the starting line.

Starting Week 25 of a 30 week plan to get to IM Wisconsin. I'm hungry and tired all of the time, and the heat/humidity this summer has been brutal. Just got to stick it out for four more heavy training weeks.

I came across a writeup on an Anthropic (AI company) project -- a vending machine run by one of their generative AI models, responsible for ordering inventory, setting prices, interacting with customers, etc. There's a horror story in here somewhere. www.anthropic.com/research/pro...
Project Vend: Can Claude run a small shop? (And why does that matter?)
We let Claude run a small shop in the Anthropic office. Here's what happened.

Training, training, training... that's my life until Sept. Did a half IM in very hot conditions two weekends ago. I was happy with my swim and bike. Had to do a lot of walking on the run segment, but that was due to the heat. Was happy to have finished it.
