How this started: A few of us started getting together once a week to go for a walk. We would chat and maybe get some food after. We decided to make things more interesting by doing self guided walking tours of interesting bits of infrastructure and area history.
This week we went to the Wittman Dam. This small, out of the way, flood control dam is tucked a way out of site from passers by. Most people don't even know it is here. It is a local infrastructural engineering gem managed by Broome County. We had a nice walk along the dam and spill way.

Last week we took a walk around the IBM Glen. Due to the threat of rain and our dislike of being wet and uncomfortable we only walked the Red trail. Even though our walk was short we got to see an abundance of wildlife, we encountered 2 deer and a bunch of small critters and birds.

This is very nice. It's giving off Dutch street design vibes.
What happens when there’s not enough space for accessible sidewalks? Make a shared street. Here’s Fairmont Ave in Cambridge, MA. Former sidewalks become landscaping and everyone shares the flush street at very slow speeds. Special surface treatment tells you something is different.

We had a good time walking around the Whitney Point Dam trail on our most recent meetup. We even got to see a few monarch caterpillars on the remnants of some milkweed that had been mown down. Hopefully it wont get mown again until after they have a chance to fly away as butterfly's.
