One other thing you can try is in Steam game Properties, go to the Betas tab and switch to the "default_previous" branch to see if that one works for you.

I meant of the game so I could see exactly where you were, but good to know its not producing a crashlog!

Can you please share a screenshot of where you are?

I'd suggest first making sure your files are good. Under the game Properties in Steam, go to Installed Files tab, then select "Verify integrity of game files". You can also check in My Documents\Chasm for a crashlog.txt that should have more info about the error.
