I've been reading up on some of it. Julia Serano coined the term "subconscious sex" in her book Whipping Girl. basically, our brains all have an idea of what it "thinks" our sex should be. this is why we get gender dysphoria if we don't transition. it thinks we should be one way and gets distressed.

there are parts of the brain of trans people that, when scanned, resemble that of a cis person's brain. I think it has to do with the part of the brain that reacts to being called a man/woman/other. Jovan talks about it in some of his videos.
