I have to always point out to native Austrians and Germans that the Amtssprache is Standard Deutsch, not the dialect they're speaking.
They sadly still can't write me in Standard Deutsch. If you feel people don't understand you, it's worth checking out how you're writing them. Hope this helps! :)

To be fair, I've been learning a lot from my direct environment by sound. I don't even know if it's Standard German or dialect that I'm picking up. I also throw in Dutch words and phrases, hoping they translate the same.

When you keep animals, you have to make accommodations fitting to them. A cage happens to suit the best for birds! It's for their own safety, there's many dangers to roam free without supervision.
Plus, they see their cage as a home. They like going back in. :)
