A secretive Lincoln’s Sparrow popping up to see who is walking by. Standing plants provide cover as well to protect feeding birds from predators.
And many native seed heads will provide vertical visual interest in the garden during winter. Don't be in a hurry to remove them from your garden. #birds

In a unique situation, goslings have hatched 70 feet high in an eagle’s nest. They will have to jump down within the next 24 hours in order to feed and begin their life on the water. You can watch this drama on the webcam #birds

Early spring in Minnesota can have days teasing of warmth and sun only to be followed by stretches of cold and gray weather. Wet snow is common but does not last long if it even sticks to the ground. Despite the cold and snow, spring bird activity is happening. #birds

Migrating through my yard and trying to prey on the abundance of birds at the feeder is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Easy to overlook, these hawks are the same size as a Blue Jay. #birds

The Passenger Pigeon-America’s most abundant bird with 3 to 5 billion-was hunted to extinction in just over three decades in the late 1800’s. This species now lives in our history as a reminder that what was once so plentiful, can quickly be no more. (Photo of the Bell Museum’s diorama) #birds

If the birds have suddenly disappeared from your feeders, it could be because a Sharp-shinned Hawk is in the vicinity. Songbirds make up about 90% of their diet. #birds
