Just spotted these cool Collared Earthstars in our front garden! With a little tap, a jet of spores comes out the top like a mini volcanic eruption!

Spectacular afternoon sunshine in the @ldvnnr.bsky.social following a biblical downpour, on our @yorkscoastnature.bsky.social Wetlands birding day. A smart Peregrine landed nearby, having flushed thousands of waders and ducks from the flooded ings. Friday feeling!

9 little white dots = 9 Little Egrets. The increase in the population of this elegant white heron in the UK is well known; it even breeds in Yorkshire these days. However, most birds in the York area head to the coast in winter so this flock at Bishopthorpe ings is notable. @yorkbirding.bsky.social

This little rabbit-shaped dot is a Mountain Hare, on moorland at RSPB Dove Stone near Oldham. They were introduced into the Peak District in the late 1800s and here at least, are doing ok.

Enjoyable day despite the foggy start in the @yorkbirding.bsky.social trip to Staveley and Ripon City Wetlands, two super @yorkswildlife.bsky.social reserves. Four Whooper Swans dropped in for a rest at Staveley, with Otter, two Great Egrets, heard Bearded Tits and 100k Starlings into roost at RCW.

Castle Howard this morning, dog Otter fishing at east end of Great Lake, 2 Red-crested Pochards, 5 Pintail, Goldeneye, 10 Whoopers circled and headed north with another three dropping in. No sign of the interesting aythya. @yorkbirding.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social

Big waves at Flamborough Head today. Quiet, buy enjoyable seawatch, with Sooty and Manx Shearwaters, Long-tailed Duck, Mediterranean and Little Gulls,Arctic Tern. 11 Twite flying around with several others at North Marsh. @flamboroughbird.bsky.social
