Deacons character board, I promise I didn't realize how much Arthur inspired him cause I based a lot of deacons personality on my partner but I guess they share a lot more in common than I realize. He's a former outlaw that managed to get away after a bad gig. Made his own farmstead and tried to make an honest man outta himself, until finding Maria in his barn attic one stormy night in November. He's a man of few words but quick to action if need be, he's very protective of Maria and his farm animals, especially his dairy cow Bella. I also toyed with him being a werewolf for a while so the livestock guardian dog made sense to me. Same with the flower, a black eyed Susan, my Gramma used to grow these and always told me how the means strength, hope, and resilience, the will to push on and shine as bright as the flower itself. I think that fits a man wanting to chance better than anything. He keeps his hair long but usually keeps the upper part tied back to keep it outta his face while workin. His eyes are a greenish blue, same as my partners, I wanted to give him comforting soft eyes, the eyes of someone that's been through so much but still chooses to look up on the earth with kindness. Maria my sweet little creature. Maria is a vampire, but I've sorta mishmashed vampire lore from many different sources for how she "functions". She has C-Ptsd due to a very complicated childhood, and often has a fawning response, or a meltdown if severe, when she has a trauma trigger. Not to mention just being a skittish person in general. Even then while still existing with the same joy for life as a fawn, but the "deer in headlights" was intentional instead of a cute baby deer in the grass. She was very sick as child, one of the illnesses taking her sight almost completely at age 11, she can see some light sources if they're bright and can tell when she's in the dark but not much past that, unless she's starving, then her eyes black out and she can see heat signatures but still not defined shapes. Her favorite colour is green this almost everything she wears is one shade or another of it, hardly ever seen without her favorite jacket. It was a gift from her grandmother, a nun that resided in the local cathedral. Maria grew up very devout Catholic and struggled with what her heart felt and what he family told her, only later finding comfort in her belief after meeting Deacon and unlearning a lot of the self hate they shoved into her. Her flower is called "The Abracadabra Rose" and is my favorite variety of the plant. They were the first flowers I'd ever received from anyone when my partner gifted me a bushel of them. They symbolize individually, uniqueness, and the magic of ever changing nature, as no 2 bulbs will ever have the same pattern. Much like my own experiences coping with C-Ptsd, Maria has a bad tendency to be hostile to people that have hurt her in someway, wanting to distance or lash out like a scared dog, the quote from Chief resonates a lot for myself and her. I use my OCs to process my own traumas and find comfort within them. Maria isn't a self insert, but we share experiences and traumas. They both mean a lot to me so I hope you enjoy when I post :)
