Using Coral Point Count, a digital tool for tracking coral cover and diversity, students analyzed reef images to assess species and benthic changes — linking fieldwork to long-term reef conservation.

Students from @lacordaireacademy joined researchers to explore Bermuda’s deep-sea #sharks using environmental DNA.

The result? Genetic fingerprints of four deep-sea sharks — including a bluntnose sixgill!

First deepwater trials of new tech—combining cameras & acoustic sensors—the system offers less disruptive/more detailed way to study zooplankton up to 1000m. It will be tested against traditional methods & upgraded for adaptive sampling.

Scientists from all 7 continents gathered at BIOS for a workshop on FAIR data practices in ship-based marine ecological time series. Hosted by IOCCP & supported by NSF’s EarthCube to make ocean data more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable & Reusable—empowering research, education & policy.
