In 1972, the Bioengineering Unit relocated to our home - the Wolfson Centre. In 2025, we're now dept. of Biomedical Engineering, made up of students and researchers from many backgrounds & fields, doing multidisciplinary research in the heart of Glasgow, from stroke rehabilitation to mechanobiology🧪

Our origins go back to 1962 with the establishment of the MRC Biomechanics Group, the first of its kind in Europe! Eventually, the Biomechanics Group turned into the Bioengineering Unit under our founding head, Prof Kenedi (you can find the original announcement of the unit in Nature below!)🔬
