Will re-submit a revised version after the winter holidays.

Just the reviewer comments were a bit weird - one thinks that the work program is too ambitious for just one PhD student (Are they seriously suggesting to me to apply for TWO positions next time???) while other thinks its too explorative 🤷‍♂️

Histogram wasn't that suspicious but PCA is 🔽

Finally, use of a "forensic image analysis" tool also shows the image to be too uniform and on the left panel, only composed of three "sub-types" - the one with the "bright outline", the dark one, and the "major" one. Central panel is even more uniform

Not that we did not have lazy "one-line reviewers" before 😉

What I actually find most annoying at the moment is that the time given to return a review is ever decreasing while the task of properly analyzing a manuscript and all associated data is sharply increasing - that will not work.

And strangely, almost all of the dark background - when checked sufficiently far away from the "cells" - is only single color only: RGB (1,3,0) 🤔

Absolutely no red/blue in the left panel and no green in the center one - very odd ...
November 24, 2025 at 12:56 AM
While this 🔽 is the green only channel of the RGB picture.

Well, with a little bit of playing around with GIMP you immediately see that something seems to be odd - the picture below is the red/blue only of the RGB picture

Could easily be solved when all instruments would "digital sign" the images they produce with a check-sum that includes a unique instrument and vendor ID plus date/time stamp
November 24, 2025 at 12:46 AM
As I suspected: used GIMP to open image, zoom in to maximum level, open "color picker" - all pixels sufficiently far from the "cells" are RGB (1,3,0) 🤔

Don't know - still looks "too perfect" for me and would raise immediate suspicion when I see it as a reviewer.

Would also like to see the full file and inspect the background compared to a real experimental image.

My best guess is also "will be too uniform"

Generation random noise is difficult

There would be more if the LarA cofactor model synthesis wasn't that "buggy" ...🙄

The disappearance rate of any small item in a lab is too short to be measured by current technology 😁
