From what I can tell the data is based on people who are posting online about how they use it? The problem is that no one I know posts online about how and why they use AI tools, so I suspect this report could be highly biased towards terminally online people rather than general population

Yes that’s true, I do know someone personally who uses one but I just wonder whether more people would prefer to use other forms of online communication (e.g social media)

Probably because an AI companion feels fake and meaningless compared to a real friendship with a living being.
