This is the president's chair from Independence Hall. It is said that in the summer of 1787 Benjamin Franklin wondered if it was a rising sun or a setting sun and concluded, with the adoption of the Constitution, it was a rising sun. Happy Fourth. May he be right today: all suns set.

I visited the Mel Fisher museum in Key West to see treasure recovered from the sunken Spanish galleon Atocha. I didn’t know the museum also displays the ugly shackles and other relics of the British slave ship Henrietta Marie he found nearby, including the little ones used for children and women.
