We said goodbye to Sonic this morning. Two pets in 5 1/2 months sucks no matter how old they were.

Sonic came into our lives 14 years ago. She was four weeks old with a skull fracture and I brought her home for overnight fluids and told everybody “don’t get attached. She’s not going to make it“

Today I prepared a jaguar’s canine teeth for metal prosthodontic crowns. He already has had root canal treatment on three that he’s broken (most recently last month) so we’re making the metal crowns to protect what he has left! I’m almost giddy it’s so much fun!!

I’m getting really excited that I actually get to put crowns on this guy’s teeth…
Holding the front paw of a jaguar and extending one claw to demonstrate how actually huge they are and how terrifying this guy actually is. Me, holding the mandibles of a jaguar to demonstrate the incisor and canine teeth. The canine tooth on the left of this photo is his lower right (#404 for the vet dental nerds) and it is unbroken and approximately 3cm long. The lower left canine (304), on the right side of the photo, is fractured and the vital portion or pulp of the tooth is exposed. This fracture necessitated a root canal procedure on this tooth. A photo of me, in my scrubs and surgical mask, wearing lighted magnifying loupes, giving the peace sign with my right, blue gloved hand, and holding open the jaguar’s mouth with my left hand during a root canal procedure for a fractured lower left canine tooth.
