Sent this to my representative today, after he sent me a form letter in response to my call yesterday, claiming they’re not cutting Medicaid, SNAP, etc as a result of the new budget framework:
While I appreciate your response, the fact that you mention that the budget framework does not list Medicaid or Medicare by name for cuts, and the fact that the Energy and Commerce Committee is directed to cut $880 billion out of their section of the budget, and that committee currently oversees a budget that includes $600 billion for Medicaid and $440 billion for Medicare and all other programs, that means that there is no possible way to achieve $880 billion in cuts WITHOUT cutting Medicaid. This will affect my family and millions of other families who have elderly relatives who will require long-term care in nursing homes, since over 4 in 10 nursing home residents are on Medicaid. Without that funding, those residents will be kicked out, the facilities will lose funding, and many of them will shut down, leaving many more families without workable care options. This is an outrage, and if you vote for the final budget that includes these cuts, you can be sure that I will never vote for you and will tell everyone I know not to as well.
