Violent crime is rising and pedestrians are losing their lives. Worcester should be a place where seniors can afford to downsize, young families can buy their first home, and residents feel safe in their neighborhoods and on the roads. Working together, we can make this a reality. My life has been overcoming adversity and helping people. In college, I lost my ability to walk. Ever since, I’ve been a disability and housing advocate. I started Friends of Lake Park, served on the Worcester Access Advisory Commission, and currently chair the Worcester Together Affordable Housing Coalition. You deserve a Worcester that is affordable to you, has quality city services, and is safe to live in. In May 2022, 4 D2 residents died in a 4 alarm multi-family fire at 2 Gage Street. The building was owned by a slumlord & lacked sprinklers. We can prevent these tragedies, protect residents & first responders, & preserve housing stock by adopting & enforcing common sense safety measures.

The ordinance was supported by the City Manager, the Worcester Fire Chief & the State Fire Marshall. Automatic fire sprinklers save lives & minimize injuries to residents & firefighters by controlling fires quickly. My opponent, current District 2 Councilor Candy Mero Carlson, voted to reject it.

Last week, the Worcester City Council voted 6-4 to reject a common sense fire safety ordinance already adopted by 193 cities & towns in MA. MGL Chapter 148, Section 26 I is an opt-in state law that says: if you own an old 4+ unit building & are gutting it, you have to put sprinklers in. #WorcPoli
