Had the pleasure of talking about JAMS, anime studies, and librarianship on two amazing panels at AnimeNYC!

I'm so heartened to see so many opportunities for public scholarship emerging for professors and librarians at larger conventions - especially needed right now!

AnimeNYC Day 0 is a HUGE success!

Badge acquired, and managed to grab last minute tickets to a show!

"Death Becomes Her" was AMAZING!

It's also fun making small talk with folks and being able to say I'm here in NYC to talk about anime! I wish I could tell younger Billy the way his life would go!

Thrilled to share I'll be speaking at AnimeNYC next week!

Here me talk about anime and manga scholarship, and rep JAMS and IU Library in:

"From Fandom to Faculty: The Academic Life of Anime and Manga" on Friday!

And

"Oh Grow Up!: Seinan and Josei Manga/Anime" on Saturday!

My first AnimeNYC! 🥳

It's not every day your university writes a whole news article about you, nor every day that they include a picture of you, your mom, and your grandma from the 2014 Anime Boston Death Match!

So honored to have been highlighted by Indiana University!

Hello! I'm in this!
June 6, 2025 at 8:30 AM
In 2019, I was a panicked graduate student wondering if I'd ever get anywhere at all researching anime.

In 2025, I'm a faculty member on a funded trip to Kyoto about to present my research on anime internationally.

Life is very good, I'm very grateful.

I had the most incredible time presenting my "Anime Convention Attendee" data at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference!

I'm eager to see this year's data, but we need a lot more responses - take it today if you can!

WELCOME TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, SKELETON DANCE!!

THIS IS THE YEAR TO GET SPOOKY!!!

Yes I DID pitch this as a little article to an internet news site, no they did NOT care! 😂

But it's cool! And a wild way of seeing how information moves from fact to scholarship to news media to fan media, all through interpretation of information!! :) 4/4

And HIS source for this case come SOLELY from letters by Florence Stoker to the British Society of Authors, and NO you cannot read them online - they are not digitized by the British Library, so we're getting accounts only from her perspective, which totally warps the entire case! 3/4

Everything we know about the Nosferatu Copyright Scandal - where Florence Stoker sued Prana Films out of existence, and every copy of Nosferatu was ordered to be burned - comes from ONE chapter, 25 pages, or Skal's book "Hollywood Gothic: The Tangled Web of Dracula from Novel to Stage to Screen" 2/4

I love seeing all the discussion around Nosferatu - and I just had my piece on it published in "Teaching the Vampire" two days ago!

What's fascinating about all the coverage of its copyright, is that it comes from one source (1/4)
