Try the series Hornblower's Legacy, by James Keffer. I thought the first book, Hornblower and the Island, was very good, and I'm enjoying the next one - Brewer's Luck.

That's the first Doc Savage novel I read. I saw the book in a used book store over 50 years ago. It caught my eye, and I've been a Doc fan ever since. My condolences to his family.
